Frequently Asked Questions
General Moving Questions
The busiest months for moving are typically May through September, when demand is high and prices can be higher. If you’re looking to save money, consider scheduling your move during the off-peak months (October through April) or on weekdays, as weekends tend to fill up quickly and can be more expensive. Moving during less busy times can offer more flexibility with scheduling and often comes at a lower cost
For long-distance moves, we recommend scheduling your move 2-4 weeks in advance. For local moves, 1-2 weeks should be sufficient, but the earlier, the better to ensure your preferred date. However, PortFlex Club Members always have an access to the priority scheduling.
We understand that plans can change. Contact us as soon as possible, and we’ll work with you to reschedule your move without any hassle or charges.
No, we do not require a deposit. We value flexibility and want to make it easy for you to adjust your move date if necessary.
According to California law, Double Drive Time applies when the distance between your pick-up location and your destination exceeds 10 miles. In this case, the driving time between both locations is doubled and added to your bill. This ensures movers are fairly compensated for their time on the road during your move.
Packing and Preparation
To ensure a smooth moving day:
- Ensure clear access for our movers to load and unload efficiently.
- Pack and label your boxes ahead of time.
- Set aside essential items (such as medications, toiletries, etc.).
No, we do not disconnect or reconnect washing machines, dryers, refrigerators, or other appliances. Moving companies’ insurance does not cover any damages caused by these tasks, and improper handling can result in leaks or electrical damage. It’s safer to hire a professional technician who specializes in this work and carries the proper insurance.
Important Note: If a moving company promises to handle these jobs for you, be cautious. Most insurance policies will not cover any damages during the disconnection or reconnection process by movers, which puts you at risk. It’s always best to hire someone certified to handle appliances since such person has a special insurance.
We take extra care with fragile and high-value items like glassware, artwork, and mirrors. Our professional movers use specialized packing techniques and materials to ensure the safety of your belongings.
Yes! Our package includes free shrink wrap, tape, moving blankets, and wardrobe boxes. While regular packing boxes are not included, Gold and Platinum members receive free packing boxes, and Silver members enjoy discounted rates.
Yes, we offer full and partial packing services. Our professional team can pack all your items safely and efficiently, so you don’t have to worry about a thing.
Costs and Payment
The cost of your move is based on factors such as the size of your move, the distance between locations, the need for packing services, and any special handling requirements. We provide personalized quotes to ensure fair and transparent pricing.
We understand that every move is unique, so we offer customized quotes based on the specifics of your move. For example, if you don’t have stairs or heavy items, we’ll charge you less. If your move includes fragile or delicate items, we will handle them with extra care. However, due to the careful handling required, we may not be able to offer discounted pricing for these moves.
For a typical 2-bedroom home, 2 movers and a truck are usually sufficient. For larger homes, we recommend 3-4 movers, and extra movers can be added for just $40 per hour to speed up the process. In some cases, hiring more movers can save you money by completing the job faster.
An hourly rate means you pay for the time it takes to complete your move. A flat fee offers a fixed price for the entire move, providing more predictability. We offer both options, so you can choose whichever suits your move best.
Our estimates are based on the details you provide. If your move takes less time than expected, you’ll pay less. If it takes longer, you won’t be charged more than the original estimate, giving you peace of mind that there are no surprises.
Tipping is completely optional, but it’s a nice way to show your appreciation for the movers’ hard work. Industry standards suggest tipping between 15-30% of the total move cost, which is then divided evenly among the crew. However, you are under no obligation to tip if you do not wish to.
No, we do not charge for breaks. Any time spent on breaks, including lunch breaks, is deducted from the total time. You only pay for the time we are actively working on your move.
